Left unlocked, you are here late Have a drink and play this tape Chalkboard shows you where we are On the moons of a red star Got here at dusk, and we did the song Seconds in, already gone Used the map we made last year Left you a copy somewhere here Off on the moons, But we’ll call you soon Thanks for the words you taught to say Thanks for money paid each day Couldn’t wait, we called your phone Send a flash when you get goin’ Took the globe compass and the gloves, Bottles of air to breath above, Battery wires, and light bulbs too, All the songs you used to do Off on the moons, But we’ll call you soon Lost the way in heavy clouds, We did not all make it out. Straight into the silver sea, Cities made of crawling trees. Feel the ground, softer than before Shining shore, houses with no doors Found a place to go to sleep, All the wings wraped round your feet Off on the moons, But we’ll call you soon

Did they tear the tavern down? I’m searching since I’m back in town. I saw the neon yesterday. Buildings don’t just walk away Yeah, you could drink anywhere Brighter but I couldn’t care. What I want’s those basement stairs Just the taste of air down there. I never got a picture of those golden lights I swear that some of you were down there every night Singing out of tune Drinking in the Wreckage Room Yeah, they used to do it wrong They didn’t use to live so long And that’s a couple lives ago, I always felt ‘em in me though A habit you can never kick, A fate that you can never trick, Losing every game of pool Falling off of every stool I never got a picture of those golden lights But I swear that some of you were down there every night Singing out of tune Drinking in the Wreckage Room Where did you spend the years, What brings you back so late? Under the power lines, Off in the golden state. Wanted to see the snow, Work in the shop again. Drink in the Wreckage Room. So, have you seen my friends? Here I found a sewer grate Listen while the hour’s late You can hear the Brewer shout Hear ‘em roll the barrel out Everybody screams destroy The singer with a ruined voice Feedback from the amplifiers The smell of all the smoking wires I never got a picture of those golden lights I swear that some of you were down there every night Singing out of tune Drinking in the Wreckage Room

Shore Signal 03:31
Oh, what a world! It’s one islands You scan the shore, It’s always silent The boat was drifting Wind was down The channel came alive And made a sound. I picked up a signal from the shore. Came this way to try to learn some more. I reached the beach, And saw the stranger. Hello hello, They didn’t answer. But pointed to the tower, The antenna rising high above The trees I picked up a signal from this shore Landed here to try to learn some more. Who was that voice, What was that sound, Is it alive? I didn’t I know How long I’d stay When I arrived. The air was thick, The faces faded. They closed the door And barricaded. Then I heard the story of the flooding and the storm that changed the air. I picked up a signal from this shore. Now I’m not a stranger anymore. So I do the job A simple system We call the names In case they’re listening. Hard to know if Anyone can hear me In the darkness of the waves. I sent out a signal from this shore. Tried to bring a stranger to our door. Who was that voice, What was that sound, It still alive? How could I know How long I’d stay When I arrived?

It took a year to break the door Took a day to go. Do we know what’s in the hills? No we do not know. Do you know how many hills We will have to cross until We are lost without a clue And we’re stranded in our shoes? I used to have a seat inside, But I gave back the keys, Scratched my name off of the wall, Nothing left to see. Do you know how many hills We will have to cross until We are lost without a clue And we’re stranded in our shoes? Years from now, The ticket on the ground Takes us back, All the way back down. Same address, Just an empty lot. Just your shoes, Marking off the spot. Do you know how many hills We will have to cross until We are lost without a clue And we’re stranded in our shoes?

Catacombs 02:35
Found a rusty wheel from a street that’s sunken away Got a chip of wall with a spray paint word, hey what does it say? Heard a city’s lost, yeah but what if some of it’s true If you got no plans gonna dig the ground, maybe we’ll break through Way down in the catacombs, You can smell the flowers grow Looking for a rock to throw Said we gotta roam Gotta roam Cause we’re goin To the catacombs There’s a golden beach and green field gathering dust There’s a skeleton hiding from the cops, waiting for the bust I am not a part, and I never pretended to be Not a people’s voice, like they said back then, I just want to see Way down in the catacombs, You can smell the fireworks, Underneath a barricade Made of broken bones You still home? Cause we’re goin’ To the catacombs Way down in the catacombs, You can smell the flowers grow Way down in the catacombs, You can smell the fireworks, Looking for a rock to throw Said we gotta roam Gotta roam Cause we’re going To the catacombs

Candlewood 05:38
Have you ever stopped by Candlewood it’s called Don’t bring anybody Go there in the fall In the age of poison, What do people share? Finally stopped asking When I wandered there. I made you a map, See the red line, Easy to find. Of course it is safe, See for yourself, Look at my face. You see this flame above my head, Never leaves me lone? Got it down in Candlewood, That’s just where we’re goin’ You see my face is very faint, But never fades away? It’s been like that since Candlewood, How it's gonna stay. So, I reached a marker, Carvings on the bark. Some kind of theater An entrance in the dark. I couldn’t see the players, Making all the noise, Couldn’t make out language, Couldn’t hear a voice Hundreds of heads, Crowding a cave Facing a stage. Light in the air Some sort of door Couldn’t say more You see this flame above my head, Never leaves me lone? Got it down in Candlewood, That’s just where we’re goin’ You see my face is very faint, But never fades away? It’s been like that since Candlewood, How it's gonna stay. No more California, No Great Lakes for me. Since I found that exit, Hidden in the trees. Gotta stay in motion, Never stop this car. Glad you need a ride now, Glad you’re going far. I was like you, Angry and young, Trying to run. Look at the time, This is our turn, This is our sign. You see this flame above my head, Never leaves me lone? I got it down in Candlewood, That's just where we're goin'. You see my face is very faint, But never fades away? It’s been like that since Candlewood, How it's gonna stay.

Trade a Year 04:49
We heard some howling in the green, Followed what none of us could see. Sniffing at a crooked line, Pulling in the dark. Ears up, and deeper in the trees. Jumping and pulling at the leash. I don’t know, we heard it though, And kept on going back. And if there’s nothing here, Still wouldn’t trade the year. We’ll go that way again, And start off at the end. Morning the block is still asleep. Stepped through the sawdust on the street. Circle after circle we Can live inside the turn. We all can hear the sinking slow, How the horizon’s getting low. Going to a steady beat, Always on repeat. And if there’s nothing here, Still wouldn’t trade the year. We’ll go that way again, And start off at the end.
